The Stop’s Beer Garden
On select Sundays, during the summer months in Toronto, The Stop’s Beer Garden offers the best in Ontario pints and food from some of the city’s best food vendors. Today, the vendor was Fidel Gastro’s and the malt came from Granite Brewery. Located in Toronto’s west end, The Stop increases access to food and builds health and community while highlighting the challenges that result from inequality. As one of Canada’s first food banks, The Stop provides healthy food, and fosters social connections to help build food skills and promote engagement in civic issues.
In 2009, The Stop opened a sustainable food production and education centre called The Green Barn, which houses a 3,000-square foot greenhouse, a commercial kitchen, as well as a sheltered garden and compost. All this encourages people to partake in a hands-on initiative to learn about food, and its healthy options.
Here are a few photos from my visit this afternoon. I had a great time, in large part due to the rain that brought relief from the heat wave.
