For many of us, hearing our own voice is something so commonplace, we don’t even give it a second thought. But for someone like Sloan Churman who was born deaf, there couldn’t be a sweeter sound.
Churman received a new hearing implant after a lifetime of wearing hearing aids, so at age 29, she heard her own voice for the very first time. She posted this video online of how she reacted the moment it was turned on.
When I was in elementary and high school my peers would attempt to insult me by calling me “girl” because of my effeminate qualities. I used to respond by asking, “What’s wrong with being a girl?” Stupid lemmings.
Why can’t Maude and Beenie get along this well?
The video has landed. I have to admit I find it difficult to believe that a 22-year-old woman has seen this much heartache, but I get that it sells. Plus her voice is phenomenal so I’ll forgive her that it’s not entirely autobiographical.
Rosie O’Donnell returns to television on October 10th with The Rosie Show, airing on The Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) Monday to Friday at 7 p.m. I’m a big Rosie fan and a little disappointed that I won’t be able to see it because I’m in Argentina.
I hope it’s a success and saves the fledgling OWN network.

Tori kicked off the European leg of her world tour last night in Helsinki, Finland with this stunning performance of Star Whisperer, off her 12th studio album, Night of Hunters. She was in top form, and her voice was gorgeous.
